How to use this guide

One lesson at a time. No rushing.

Each lesson teaches one reasoning skill, shows how to solve it, warns about common mistakes, and ends with three mini-check questions. A student should be able to explain why an answer works before moving on.

    EXPLAIN IT OUT LOUD

    Grade 1 mastery checklist

    Before practice, a learner should be able to say these things.

    Use this as a verbal check. The goal is not memorized wording; the goal is a child who can explain the idea in their own words.

    Parent & educator coaching

    Ask for the reason.
    Not just the answer.

    ASK“What do you notice?”

    Let the learner describe the information before solving.

    NAME“What is the rule?”

    Encourage a short rule such as “It repeats red, blue.”

    TEST“Does that rule work every time?”

    Make the learner check the whole pattern or all choices.

    EXPLAIN“Why is that choice better?”

    A correct answer with no explanation may still be a guess.

    RETRY“What clue did we miss?”

    Treat mistakes as information about what to study next.

    STOP“We can come back tomorrow.”

    Short, focused sessions usually work better than forcing a tired learner onward.
